I heard something about certain kinds of plastic or foam padding that would damage the old nitrocellulose laquer (sp?) finish. I have a '74 D-28 and a '49 0-18 that I believe have the nitro finish, and don't want to chance any damage.

My Gibson necks were always sticky in summer, but they used a different formula.
